Candlemouse

Some traditions remind us that even the smallest light can brighten the darkest winter days.

Inspired by Candlemas, this illustration celebrates the gentle turning of the seasons. Tucked beneath a mossy hillside, a little mouse carefully carries glowing candle boat while tiny floating walnut lights drift across the water. It is a celebration of returning daylight, hopeful beginnings, and the quiet joy of noticing that spring is slowly finding its way back.

Created for the Seasons Lamp, these illustrated sheets are meant to be returned to, year after year. As the lamp is lit, the illustration glows like the pages of a favourite storybook, filling your home with a warm, golden light that naturally becomes part of your family’s seasonal traditions.

This illustration is one of my designs for the Seasons Lamp—a wooden lamp created to display interchangeable illustrated sheets throughout the changing seasons. Whether displayed on a nature table, in a child’s bedroom, or as part of your seasonal decorations, each artwork is created to grow alongside the rhythms of the year.

Inspired by the traditions of the Waldorf year, these illustrations celebrate the small seasonal moments that often become our most treasured memories. Lighting a candle, watching the first snowdrops appear, or gathering together at the end of the day—these simple rituals remind us that every season brings something worth celebrating.
