Seven years ago, on a chilly winter afternoon, my son, then just 1.5 years old, sat nestled in his grandmother Hanneke’s lap. Together, they gazed out the window at the graceful birch tree in our neighbor’s garden. As they watched, his ‘omi’ spun a whimsical tale about squirrels having a tea party in the branches, sipping warm acorn tea. That simple, magical moment gave me goosebumps—and I’ve cherished it ever since.

Now, years later, I’ve captured that memory in my latest illustration, Acorn Tea. It’s a scene that evokes the coziness of winter—a day spent with your best friend, coming home to warm drinks, mummy-made snacks, and rosy cheeks after being out in the cold.
