In a snow-covered forest, a small gnome girl sits close to her owl companion on a frosted branch. Between them rests an open book. The winter air is pale and still, the sun low and distant, yet the pages seem to hold their own warmth. There is something comforting about reading in winter — when the world grows quiet and stories feel closer, almost necessary.
“Winter’s Tale” was created with that hush in mind: the soft crunch of snow, the stillness of trees, and the closeness that comes from sharing a story on a cold day.
Painted in gouache, coloured pencil and finished with a digital brush, this postcard captures the calm intimacy of winter. A lovely piece for seasonal tables, winter letters, or to keep nearby during long evenings when the light fades early and stories glow brighter.
Send a sprinkle of storybook magic this winter—or keep Winter Tale as a gentle reminder that even in the coldest season, warmth lives in friendship, stillness, and the stories we share.

I’m Iris Esther, an illustrator and mother of two, creating illustrated art, art prints, postcards, and small paper goods from my forest-side home studio. With a green birdhouse in the first tree outside my window, I work guided by nature, fairytales, changing seasons and by a deep love for making art by hand.
Growing up, being outside wasn’t a destination but a way of living. My art grew from that same gentle rhythm.
My illustrations are made to quietly support everyday life — bringing a sense of enchantment to family celebrations, seasonal rituals, and small moments that matter.
