Under the quiet glow of the autumn moon, the forest grows busy in its own gentle way. Two squirrels gather what they can — one perched on a red toadstool, thoughtfully holding on to a golden acorn, the other passing along a small woodland treasure. Nearby, two hedgehogs move steadily through the leaves, carrying its careful collection.
There is no haste, only rhythm. The quiet understanding that colder days are coming, and that now is the time to prepare.
I created this illustration with those in-between seasons in mind — when the air turns sharper and the world begins to fold inward. The small creatures know what to do. They gather, they store, they trust the turning of the season.
Painted in gouache and coloured pencil, and a gentle digital brush, this postcard captures the calm industry of autumn.
A lovely piece for seasonal tables, celebration rings, or to send as a quiet greeting during the darker month. This card also part of the “Enchanted Autumn” set of 6 cards. You can find it here.

I’m Iris Esther, an illustrator and mother of two, creating illustrated art, art prints, postcards, and small paper goods from my forest-side home studio. With a green birdhouse in the first tree outside my window, I work guided by nature, fairytales, changing seasons and by a deep love for making art by hand.
Growing up, being outside wasn’t a destination but a way of living. My art grew from that same gentle rhythm.
My illustrations are made to quietly support everyday life — bringing a sense of enchantment to family celebrations, seasonal rituals, and small moments that matter.
