There is a reason Little Red Riding Hood has remained one of the most beloved fairytales for centuries. It speaks to something many of us recognise: the excitement of setting out on our own, the curiosity to wander a little further, and the lessons we learn along the way.
This illustration was inspired by the timeless tale collected by the Brothers Grimm and by my love for autumn woodlands. I imagined the forest not as a place of fear, but as a place filled with beauty, mystery, and possibility. Sunlight filters through golden leaves, wildflowers bloom beside the path, and a small cottage waits in the distance while the wolf quietly emerges from the trees.
When creating this piece, I wanted it to feel like a memory from an old fairytale book — the kind you return to year after year. The warm autumn palette, the winding path, and the meeting between Roodkapje and the wolf all invite the viewer to pause and wonder what happens next.
Whether displayed in a nursery, reading nook, classroom, or fairytale-inspired home, this art print celebrates the enduring charm of one of Grimm’s most iconic stories and the imagination it continues to inspire.

I’m Iris Esther, an illustrator and mother of two, creating illustrated art, art prints, postcards, and small paper goods from my forest-side home studio. With a green birdhouse in the first tree outside my window, I work guided by nature, fairytales, changing seasons and by a deep love for making art by hand.
Growing up, being outside wasn’t a destination but a way of living. My art grew from that same gentle rhythm.
My illustrations are made to quietly support everyday life — bringing a sense of enchantment to family celebrations, seasonal rituals, and small moments that matter.
