In the middle of autumn — a bear is having a very important lie-down. Not a snore-and-sleep sort of lie-down, but a thoughtful one.
His eyes are open. His nose is twitching. And then he sees it.
Perched proudly on a pale mushroom sits a snail. Not rushing. Not fussing. Just beginning a journey at the most gloriously snail-ish pace imaginable. The bear watches. The snail glides. Their eyes meet — and plink! — time seems to forget what it was meant to do next.
Wonderment was made for moments like this: when nothing much happens, and yet everything feels enormous. It’s a celebration of odd friendships, of stopping instead of rushing, and of discovering that the smallest creatures often have the biggest presence. The forest, painted in deep, earthy colours, seems to lean in too — curious, quiet, and listening.
This piece is for you if you enjoy noticing things other people miss. If you believe that slowing down is a kind of superpower. It fits perfectly on autumn nature tables, in forest-loving nurseries, or anywhere that could use a reminder to pause.
Let Wonderment whisper to you that magic doesn’t shout or sparkle or wave its arms about.
Sometimes, it sits on a mushroom. And waits for you to look.

I’m Iris Esther, an illustrator and mother of two, creating illustrated art, art prints, postcards, and small paper goods from my forest-side home studio. With a green birdhouse in the first tree outside my window, I work guided by nature, fairytales, changing seasons and by a deep love for making art by hand.
Growing up, being outside wasn’t a destination but a way of living. My art grew from that same gentle rhythm.
My illustrations are made to quietly support everyday life — bringing a sense of enchantment to family celebrations, seasonal rituals, and small moments that matter.
